The news that Canterbury-based music festival Lounge on the Farm could be closed has been met with anger and disappointment. Local band member Joe Strang feels that the closure would be unnecessary.
Following a number of incidents at the festival earlier this year, Police have demanded that the council remove the organiser’s license.
With reports including sexual assault, robbery, drugs and violence, the council have admitted that the festival may have grown too quickly – from a capacity of 4,999 in the first four years to 9,999 in 2010.
Strang is a member of local band House of Rogues who played at the festival two years ago. He said: “it would be a shame if it got shut down just because of a few scruffs”, and also said he was worried about the effect it could have on the local music industry, but understood the ethic had changed over the last few years.
“It’s a family friendly festival… I know it’s getting more popular – I think that’s why its getting locked down now... they had Ellie Goulding and The Streets there, so obviously that’s going to get the younger ones rowdier.”
A number of other Canterbury residents also gave scathing reviews of the possible decision, with one going as far as to call it “utterly stupid.”
