Catching Lives Charity - Life is "just going to get harder" for Canterbury's homeless

by Jamie Feltham

Terry Gore, Deputy Service Manager of charity Catching Lives has called out on Canterbury’s treatment of the homeless, saying that local police have “pushed the envelope” of said treatment.

“It doesn’t make any logical sense,” Mr Gore said. “It’s all about prejudice and stereotyping. Yes some of our clients have alcohol problems and they don’t like them sitting outside Nasons drinking. There are by-laws that they can use but some of our police officers locally have pushed the envelope and I don’t think it’s fair.”

According to the charity Canterbury's homeless are "discouraged" from residing inside the city walls. Instead, they stay on the outskirts of the city centre.

Mr Gore blamed government cuts on the current state of affairs, saying that things are “just going to get harder” for the city’s homeless inhabitants.
