Weight Watchers Vs NHS diet plans

by Rebecca Tomkins

Weight Watchers is more effective and cost savvy than NHS weight loss programmes, research has shown.

It was revealed that experts thought it would be more productive to encourage people to take classes run by commercial companies as opposed to GP counselling.

Research showed dieters lost more weight and continued to improve after joining gyms or dieting programmes rather than receiving counselling.  Significantly greater weight loss was shown amongst participants who attended weightwatchers compared to those in the NHS programme.

Taylor Hamilton, personal trainer at Christ Church Sports Centre agreed that by eating a healthy balanced diet and exercising would prove the most successful way of losing weight.

“If the government put their money and intentions into Weight Watchers, people would be more inclined to go.

“It provides a group dynamic, they have set plans, meals and ideals and will be able to feel more comfortable going to the gym and exercising.”
